Fall Is My Favorite Season to Declutter—5 Places I Never Forget to Clean

While most people wait for the spring to get rid of clothes they have outgrown or declutter junk drawers that have been collecting dust for months, I like to completely organize and clean out a few specific spaces in my home when the first colorful leaf falls to the ground.

Fall is the perfect time to clean out your old things and leave your home feeling refreshed. Here are the five spaces I encourage you to start working on this season, so come springtime, you won’t have to do much work at all.

My Closet

The first thing I like to tackle come fall is organizing my closet. Usually, by September or October, it’s still full of summer clothes and items I don’t need. I never want to start a new season with a closet full of clothes I won’t wear.

I like to put everything in piles, paying attention to seasonal items that should be packed away. I also make sure to get rid of any shoes or clothing that I have outgrown or no longer want.

Decluttering Tip

Remember, don’t throw these items away! I like to take them to my local thrift shop to donate or drop them off at local donation bins.

My Entryway

By the fall months, my entryway is flooded with opened mail, letters, packages, and more. There’s nothing worse than entering your home and experiencing such a cluttered mess.

Since the entryway is the first part of your home, it is a reflection of the rest of your home. I’ve found that decluttering my entryway and doing some simple organizing helps my home feel relaxed and more peaceful.

My Vanity

I have a horrible habit of throwing my makeup and other products in my vanity drawers and not giving this space the respect it deserves. Your vanity needs to be organized with everything put away in its right place.

Not only will getting ready become more fun and less stressful, but you’ll know where everything is instead of searching high and low for your favorite mascara tube.

My Office

My office can become the room where I throw coats, jackets, and other miscellaneous items that I don’t have any place for. It’s easy to close the door and pretend the mess doesn’t exist, but you should feel proud of your office and you should want to actually work in it.

I’ve found that organizing my shelves and closet in my office makes me want to use it more often than not. Don’t underestimate the power of a good clean and organized office, especially if you’re like me and work from home.

My Junk Drawers

Everyone has one, and most people probably have multiple junk drawers. Mine is in my kitchen and it’s the place where I stuff random items I don’t know what to do with.

Give yourself some peace of mind and start decluttering those junk drawers. Trust me, you’ll feel like you can breathe a little better after it’s all cleaned out and organized.
